Vocabulary Case: ‘Expedient’

Expedient refers to something that is convenient, practical, or useful in a given situation, but sometimes morally or ethically questionable.

Different Uses & Examples:


1- Practical and Efficient (Neutral Meaning)

Example: Taking a taxi was the most expedient way to get to the airport on time.

(Synonyms: convenient, effective, practical, efficient)

2- Morally Questionable but Useful

Example: Lying about his experience was an expedient way to get the job, but it was dishonest.

(Synonyms: advantageous, opportunistic, strategic, pragmatic)

3- Used in Politics & Ethics

Example: The government took an expedient approach to pass the law quickly, ignoring public concerns.

Key Idea:


If something is expedient, it gets the job done efficiently, but it may not always be the right or ethical choice.
